Première Vision

For this project I decided to look at popular culture focusing on the nostalgic views of the 90’s. I chose to do this because I was born in the 90’s myself and within my childhood I was very much surrounded by videogames and digital gaming. Therefore I thought this would be a good starting point for my project.  

To narrow down my research my main focus was to concentrate on the Lara Croft- Tomb Raider series of games.

With further research I found that the reason why the graphics have been rendered, throughout creating more realistic hyper reality effects within the games, is all about the amount of pixels and polygons used and its shaping. Older games went from using square and rectangle shaped pixels, to the new games using polygonal shapes. The more polygons and pixels used the more refined the digital graphics get. This was the main starting point to my visual research within my project.
